We’re looking for the right combination of distinctive vision, editorial judgment, editing skills, and high emotional intelligence. The Producer will work with us on Esther Perel’s podcast Where Should We Begin?

The Producer will have a love for great audio storytelling and possess a hunger for doing projects that break new ground in the podcast landscape. You will have both the ability to understand the vision for and take a role in the projects we produce as well as bring fresh thinking to guide their development and creation. You need to be able to be discreet and deeply empathetic as this job delves into the issues of the heart of many listeners.

Magnificent Noise is a premier podcast production company based in New York City. We create distinctive podcasts and audio content that expand the boundaries of what others think is possible. We are a boutique production house and consulting company, built intentionally on an intimate scale.  In all of our work we form creative alliances, collaborating as trusted partners to make very singular projects. We produce projects that people talk about. Our projects help listeners see the world in a different way. Our work sparks conversations we all need to be having. 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This is not an entry level position. It is an advanced editorial position.

This role will start as a full-time temporary role, forecasted to last six months at 32-40 hours per week, though this position may become permanent full time. This position is benefits eligible.

The Producer is a key role on a small team at Magnificent Noise who together have produced this show for the past eight years.  Top candidates for this role will demonstrate curiosity, a strong work ethic, exceptional journalistic and storytelling instincts, and exercise creativity in their production technique. The role requires a creative and inclusive approach to storytelling–someone who can shape the vision and execution of ambitious podcast projects. The ideal candidate is a talented producer, as well as a writer/storyteller who has a proven track record for producing high-quality narrative content, innovation, problem-solving, and is experienced working in a deadline-oriented environment. The Producer reliably creates original and enterprising work in every episode and project they produce.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in editorial planning of podcast, including outlining program elements, and selection/booking of contributors and guests.
• Responsible for setting and following production timelines and delivering projects on time and on budget.
• Produce and edit interviews and segments.
• Collaborate with other producers and editors at Magnificent Noise and our creative partners to ensure the depth and breadth of Magnificent Noise’s production and storytelling aesthetics and standards. 
• “Think deep” and produce work that needs to exist in the world. 
• Book contributors, guests, and interviews, as well as managing recording logistics, remote studio recordings, and location management.
• Deep listening skills required to  screen potential couples and guests for the series.
• Record interviews and ambience at on-location recordings and use recording equipment, proper microphone selection and selection and placement, and how to get “great tape.”
• Edit segments and can edit and manipulate digital audio lay-ups.
• Coordinate all aspects of production, post-production, and program distribution.
• Video editing experiences are a plus.
• Other duties as assigned.

LOCATION

This producer needs to live in the greater New York area working a hybrid combination of at home, in our Manhattan office, and on-location with our production partner.

Requirements

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• At least 5+ years of radio/audio production and thorough knowledge of writing and audio production

• Management experience, especially management of creative people doing creative work.

• Deep interest and knowledge in a wide range of subject areas.

• Knowledge of podcasting and digital audio industry.

• Must have a strong understanding of how to operate audio and video hardware, software, and facilities.

• Demonstrated writing ability.

• Demonstrated digital editing expertise using ProTools, Descript, and Premier Pro.

• Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. 

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Thrives in a team-focused environment, and understands how to balance competing priorities from multiple stakeholders.
