Job Description

School Counselor

We are seeking a School Counselor who will play a key role in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students in grades 9-12 and our GED program. The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering all students, knnowledgable and skilled in post-secondary planning, and committed to fostering a strong school community.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

Academic and Career Counseling

● Develop and implement a comprehensive guidance program aligned with the American

School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards and best practices for alternative

education settings.

● Create and maintain the Master Class Schedule and student schedules in Infinite Campus,

ensuring alignment with graduation and credit recovery needs.

● Develop and manage distribution and communication of student schedules each quarter

using Infinite Campus, ensuring students progress towards graduation and CHSC

receives full funding for all enrolled students.

● Collaborate with the Postsecondary Counselor to support students in developing

Individual Career and Education Plans (ICAP) that outline graduation and post-secondary

goals.

● Establish and manage a College and Career Center, providing guidance on college

applications, FAFSA, scholarships, and career preparation and readiness.Student Support and Engagement

● Build strong, supportive relationships with students to promote engagement in school.

● Track student academic progress and implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

to address individual learning needs, including quarterly credit checks and maintaining

updated credit trackers for all students.

● Provide regular academic progress updates to students, families, and support networks.

● Serve as a liaison between students, families, staff, and administration, ensuring open

communication and advocacy for student success.

● Partner with community organizations to enhance elective course offerings and student

opportunities.

Social-Emotional and Attendance Support

● Identify and address barriers to student achievement by connecting students with

community services and school-based resources.

● Collaborate with CHSC staff to increase attendance, reduce truancy, prevent dropouts,

and improve academic outcomes.

● Utilize Restorative Justice practices to support conflict resolution and student

accountability.

● Engage parents/guardians through phone calls, meetings, home visits, and school events.

● Actively participate in CHSC Parent/Teacher Conferences and Family Nights to foster

strong school-home connections.

Additional Responsibilities:

● Lead Senior Seminar courses in conjunction with the Postsecondary Counselor to support

students in completing their postsecondary plans, preparing their Demonstrations of

Learning, and completing their Capstone competencies for graduation.

● Contribute to new student orientation.

● Facilitate an after-school enrichment program twice per week for at least one quarter of

the school year.

● Support and promote after-school study halls to enhance student achievement.

● Assist with student enrollment and recruitment efforts.

● Contribute to school communications, including updates to CHSC’s Facebook and social

media platforms.

● Perform other duties as assigned by the School Leadership Team.

Required:

○ One of the following:

○ Subject matter endorsement on a Colorado teaching license

○ Bachelor’s degree or higher with major in subject matter

○ 36 semester credit hours in subject matter

○ Passing score in subject matter on Praxis exam

○ Commitment to equitable and inclusive practices through professional learning and

individual desire

○ Strong knowledge of teaching methods, learning styles and educational research

related to secondary learners

○ Ability to align curriculum, performance tasks, and assessments with state content

standards

○ Strong communication, organization, and planning skills

○ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport quickly, facilitating positive

relationships with students and coworkers

○ Problem solving skills

○ Proficiency in the use of technology

○ Permanent US work authorization

Desired:

○ Experience working with young people who have struggled personally or

academically in conventional school settings.

Compensation:

The starting salary for this position is between $57-263 - $86,841 depending on education and experience. The maximum salary for this position is approximately $90,000. A comprehensive benefits package is included. Teachers are eligible for the Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program.
