Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral is looking for a mission-driven, joy-filled Director of Evangelization and Catechesis to lead faith formation and evangelization efforts for all ages in our vibrant bilingual parish community.

Under the direction of the Rector, the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis is responsible for the evangelization and catechetical formation of children and adults at Saints Simon and Jude Cathedral. Along with a team of catechists, the Director prepares our children and adults to encounter Christ in the sacraments. Collaborating with volunteer ministry leaders, the Director coordinates the adult faith formation in the parish. The role includes administrative responsibilities, strategic planning, and the development of new initiatives to strengthen the parish’s mission. 

Essential Job Functions:  

Evangelization:

· Organizes and leads evangelization efforts in the parish

· Keeps the parish mindful of its mission to evangelize

· Researches, develops, and implements evangelization initiatives

· Coordinates evangelization formation for parishioners

Children’s Faith Formation:

· Manages staff and volunteers in the Faith Formation office

· Forms parents as the first educators of their children in the faith through parent sessions that run concurrently with Faith Formation nights

· Organizes sacrament retreats for school and RE children

· Sacrament preparation for non-school children (K-12): Baptism, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Eucharist

· Provides ongoing formation for all catechists and assistant catechists

OCIA:

· Coordinates OCIA in English and Spanish

· Oversees the inquiry stage and the various Rites throughout the year

· Organizes an RCIA core team and guest teachers

· Presents, defends, and lives the truths of the Catholic Church

· Works with marriage ministry on annulments and impediments of catechumens and candidates

Adult Faith Formation:

· Supervises and supports lay volunteer leadership in formation groups, English and Spanish: Blessed is She, Men’s Group, Grupo de Oración, Bible studies, Legión de Maria, Christ in Our Neighborhood, etc.

· Develops new adult faith formation opportunities based on the needs of the parish. 

· Pursues ongoing professional and spiritual growth through diocesan training, workshops, and conventions.

Administration:

· Supervises Faith Formation staff and volunteers.

· Prepares and manages the Faith Formation budget.

· Oversees registration processes and sacramental records for all faith formation programs.

· Develops strategies to help newly initiated members integrate into the life of the parish.

· Collaborates with the parish staff and clergy to support evangelization and catechesis efforts.

· Responsible for Safe Environment compliance of staff, catechist, volunteers (adults and teens) and inclusion of the Diocesan safe curriculum for children’s and teens within their programs. 

Job Requirements:

 Knowledge and Skills Required:

· Relationship with Jesus and passion for communicating that relationship with others

· Orthodox understanding of the Catholic faith

· Active daily prayer life and participation in the sacramental life of the Church.

· Visibly engages in parish community events

· Ability to engage in sensitive pastoral conversations without alienating others

· Ability to teach the faith to various age groups, from children to adults

· Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish

· Willingness to develop creative approaches to evangelization and catechesis.

· Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques

· Effective budget management

· Successful completion of Diocesan Safe Environment requirements

Education and Experience:

· MA or BA in Theology, or Kino Institute Certification, or equivalent knowledge and experience in parish catechesis, evangelization, or faith formation leadership.

· Bilingual Required: Fluent in English and Spanish, with the ability to effectively communicate, lead, and build relationships in both languages.

This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends, based on parish programs and events. The role offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental coverage. Retirement benefits become available after five years of service.
