The Correctional Health Services (CHS) Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of all clinical and medical activities within the Maricopa County Jail facilities. As CMO, you will be responsible for ensuring that all medical needs of the incarcerated population are met, and that care is provided in a safe and ethical manner, meeting Constitutional requirements. You will also oversee the development and implementation of policies, standard operating procedures, and clinical protocols related to inmate/patient medical care. The CHS Director and CMO are responsible for maintaining a care delivery system that is fiscally responsible and meets legal and regulatory requirements. From a clinical standpoint, this position ensures that CHS fulfills its mission of providing medically necessary, evidence-based, integrated health care to patients as they proceed through the judicial system. The role includes collaborating with the CHS Executive Leadership Team regarding patient care, acting as a liaison with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Detention Command, partnering with the CHS Director for briefings with the Board of Supervisors and County Leadership, overseeing day-to-day management of clinical providers, working with Human Resources on supervision and recruitment, reviewing utilization management cases, performing legal reviews and authorizing compassionate release letters, reviewing and approving EHR clinical updates, supporting patient care during clinic hours when necessary, chairing and facilitating the Clinical Practice Committee, evaluating and updating medical programs, collaborating on educational and training needs, participating in conferences and trainings, leading and participating in CHS committees, maintaining licensure and skills, serving as Responsible Physician for the Opioid Treatment Program, serving as Authorizing Official for the 340B Program, and collaborating with the Pharmacy Director on operations and medication formulary decisions. Working conditions include the ability to work inside a jail, stand, walk, bend for extended periods, handle a high volume of work, communicate with a culturally diverse population, adapt to frequent changes, work day or night shifts including weekends and holidays, travel within a 5-mile radius, respond to emergencies, maintain CPR certification, pass background checks, and have or obtain DEA certification and NPI number.
