Forte Human Capital, Inc. is seeking a Boiler Plant Operator to join our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hot Springs VA Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain boilers fired by #2 ultra-low sulfur fuel oil to produce saturated or superheated steam, ensuring compliance with air emission laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and adjust electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls, using meters, gauges, and DDC computer-generated data to optimize boiler performance.
  • Analyze combustion efficiency using testing equipment and adjust air-fuel mixtures, fuel feeds, and draft levels to meet varying load demands.
  • Perform routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance on boilers, burners, reverse osmosis units, feed water pumps, and other plant equipment.
  • Operate emergency electrical generators during power outages to sustain plant operations.
  • Analyze boiler water, feed water, and condensate using standard chemical tests, determining appropriate treatment to control chemical concentrations and impurities.
  • Test and monitor domestic water supplies, ensuring a steady supply of treated hard and soft water. Operate and maintain water pumps, softeners, and chlorinators.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Work rotating shifts to ensure 24/7 plant operations, with shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

Qualifications

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a South Dakota Rural Water License for basic water treatment.
  • Demonstrated experience in boiler plant operations, including maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans and procedures for fuel oil management.
  • Familiarity with chlorine systems and dosing for potable water disinfection.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
