Nature Photonics ( publishes original researchon all aspects of the science and technology of light and its applications. These research papers are complemented by Editorials, Reviews, News & Views and Comment pieces on topics that are of interest to the optics community both in academia and industry. We're looking for someone with a passion for science and the communication of science to join the Nature Photonics editorial team as an Associate or Senior Editor. The successful candidate will contribute to all editorial tasks related to the journal and report to the Chief Editor. This job is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and can be located in our New York, Shanghai or Beijing offices (hybrid working). Role responsibilities: Work closely within a small team of editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, management of the peer-review process, commissioning and editing of reviews and comments, and writing for the journal. Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice. Play an important role in interacting with the international photonics community at conferences and laboratory visits. Liaise extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community. Experience, Skills & Qualifications: A PhD, or equivalent qualification related to photonics. We are particularly interested in applicants with a research background in integrated optics, nanophotonics or 2D material optoelectronics although this is not mandatory. A broad knowledge and understanding of the topics covered by Nature Photonics. The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from broad areas of photonics. A collaborative mindset and good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well as part of the editorial team and other teams outside of Nature Photonics as required. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively; must be fluent in English (written and spoken). Be eager to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred but not essential. Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for a Senior Editor position.
